4 WAYS TO INCREASE WORKPLACE PRODUCTIVITY IN 2013

Workplace productivity is top of mind for many companies these days.  From downloading the latest time management application or asking their employees to work longer hours they are looking for ways to make their workforce more producitve.  Is there a magic secret that makes some companies and employees more productive than others?

RATHER THAN TO JUST KEEP TRYING HARDER INCORPORATE THE STEPS BELOW

GET THE PROJECT STARTED:  This seems to be one of the biggest barriers to overcome.  Before starting a project our brains tell us how hard it’s going to be and how long it’s going to take.  Then we start focusing on smaller mindless tasks.  So just get started!  If you do you will be more compelled to finish it according to the Zeigarnik Effect.

MANAGE YOUR TIME BETTER:  It’s not about working more or harder.  Just focus on the hardest tasks first and focus your time in packets.  Be disciplined in your scheduling and routines.  For example some of the most well known violinists practice 90 minutes at a time and then take a 15 to 20 minute break.  Manage work in sections with planned breaks in between.

GIVE YOURSELF DEADLINES:  Write down your tasks and mark them down in your calendar.  Track your progress by evaluating the time it takes to complete each activity.

STOP MULTITASKING:  Multitasking makes you less productive.  You will be more likely to complete each task more quickly if you tackle them one at a time.

The video below illustrates the above tips very well.  Enjoy!
