This article talks about how Australia’s government could save at lease $13.5 million if they were to adopt an activity based work (ABW) program as opposed to leasing office space the traditional way. The ABW model basically gives each employee a laptop and allows them to work wherever they want…….meaning they do not have their own desk. By doing this they would reduce the amount of office space they need.
Could this work? The jury is still out however it is a known fact that at any given time you have employees out of the office for whatever reason (vacation, traveling, meetings, etc..)……….meaning their desk sits empty and unused. They thought is that if they had a ratio of 7 desks for every 10+/- people they would be able to enjoy more efficient usage of their office space.
