Although the Austin City Council is currently imposing stricter policies towards transportation network companies like Uber, Uber is now expanding its services in the area despite their earlier threats they will leave the area for its strict regulations. The company announced that they will offer UberPool – the company’s 24-hour carpooling service – in Central Austin. Currently, it is available between MoPac ExpressWay to I-35 or in the U.S. 183 and Slaughter Lane. Prior to this new announcement, the service was only available during South by Southwest in 2015 and one can only avail it during Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
