The Austin City Council passed a resolution that encourages Austin Energy to invest more in renewable energy. This environmental effort aims to make the energy utility 100% green by 2030.
On one hand, the Austin Energy officials are not pleased with this decision. The officials of Austin Energy are worried with the high cost that comes with renewable energy, especially when the electricity demands increase and the renewable sources are scarce. There is a possibility that consumers will be charged with higher bills. However, City Council addressed this issue by mandating utility to cap the increase rate by 2% yearly.
