Austin Restaurants May be Forced to Compost Food Scraps

Within 3-4 years Austin restaurants may be forced to compost food scraps.  The Austin city council is voting this week on this potential mandate.  In an effort to reduce landfill wastes and help the environment the city is pushing to make this happen.  Some restaurants such as Eastside Pies are already doing this.  According to them it does not take a lot of time or money to implement this.  It’s a matter of choosing which can things go into.  If you don’t want to do this yourself there are services that charge $25 to $50 per month to pick up your excess food scraps.
