The unemployment rate of Austin remains at a steady low as it is reported to be at 2.9% since May 2016. The Texas Workforce Commission stated that this is the second continuous month that the rate remains at this level and a point lower than the May 2015 unemployment percentage of 3.3%. The reason for this decline is the addition of 171,800 seasonal and adjusted jobs; however, experts still say that job growth remains low in certain areas and industries. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the state is still at 4.4% Currently, it is Amarillo which has a lower unemployment rate in the state with only 2.8%.
