According to a new report from the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program, downtown Austin job growth has seen a 6 percent uptick over the past year. Jobs located within 3 miles of the central business district account for 24.3 percent of Austin’s overall job base, whereas the national average is 22.9 percent.
However, suburban job growth is also growing in the Austin region, and jobs located 10 to 35 miles from the central business district have grown 7.9 percent. Austin is rare in that the city has seen growth in both its central and suburban areas.
