Central Texas Angel Network, an Austin-based angel investment group, was ranked as the fourth most active investment group in the nation during 2012. Last year CTAN invested $8 million, which is reported to be the largest amount invested since the group was established in 2006.
In 2012, CTAN members invested in 28 companies and increased its membership by 50 percent to 100 members. In 2011 CTAN was ranked sixth and has only seen its membership and investments increase since then. A similar group, Texas Emerging Technology Fund, has slowed down considerably after controversy over its political influence.
