Better, improved and expansive Auditorium Shores trail head is soon to come as an auspicious recreation. Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department has started the renovations last November 20.
City’s project coordinator Terry Jungman said that trailhead improvement and renovation have been a long-term plan which was initially funded $1 million by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and later was thoroughly funded by the city. Currently, the renovation amounts a total of more than $2.2 million, and a separate from $3.5 million is allotted for the rest of Auditorium shores.
The plan involves a full renovation starting from common trail’s starting point at the southwest corner of Riverside Drive and South First Street. There would be realignment and widening of the trail, parking lot expansion, construction of new restrooms and fountains, restoration of shoreline, improvement of the connectivity of bicycle and pedestrian and landscape and lighting enhancement. Road closure and detours are expected all throughout the renovation.
