Workspaces these days are being designed in a way that encourages employee productivity, collaboration, recruitment, and retention. One other office space design component that is often not considered security. While workspace disputes like the one at the Empire State Building rarely happen, we need to start thinking about also designing the office in a way that would discourage criminal behavior.
While there are many potential ways to design office spaces a few might include:
- Orienting all the employee desks to where they are facing doors and windows
- Keep shelving less than 4 feet in height to help minimize hiding places
- Use calming paint colors to help minimize aggressive behavior
