Google Inc. made an appeal to the Federal Communications Commission last week. Through letter, Google expressed its desire to be classified as a telecommunications company. Under Title II, telecom can use utility infrastructure and poles.
Based on the statement given by an ex-FCC chairman, Reed Hundt, Google can lower its operational cost for its Google Fiber internet service. The company will no longer need to hollow out trenches in streets just to wire homes of subscribers. In the same way, subscribers will also enjoy lower service rates.
Google aims to provide a better broadband internet service within the Austin area.
