Gov. Rick Perry was indicted weeks ago for felony and coercion charges in connection with the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) investigation.
Last Thursday, the legal counsel of the governor released an affidavit that denies the allegations pertaining to abuse of power. The governor’s criminal-defense team opposed the Democrat’s claim that Perry rejected the $7.5 million funding intended for Travis County District Attorney’s Office with a purpose to block the CPRIT investigation.
Tony Buzbee, Governor Perry’s lawyer, claimed that the CPRIT accusations were plotted by his political opponents. Buzbee also classified the charges as “red herring.” herring”.
