Gunderson Dettmer’s newest headquarters in California utilizes glass to remove the boundaries of the outside world to the workspaces, illuminating the offices and at the same time, creating an illusion of two buildings in one building. Each office space for every employee is in the same size and some are open areas are created for collaboration. The irregular shape of the building also creates a perimeter above the new office spaces, creating a “living room” area surrounded by “open” and glass-fronted office spaces. The new headquarters also promotes camaraderie through regular reorganization of seating arrangements throughout the year and each office space has the same size to permit a more open environment. Employees are even permitted to redesign their office spaces for better working habits.
