An app that matches people who need a ride and drivers has been launched by Lyft Inc. last Thursday in Austin. The Lyft app has stirred some controversy in terms of its implementation against the city rules. According to reports, Lyft has submitted a petition for Austin’s rule to be changed.
Ridesharing companies are permitted to operate in Austin but a limit was set for payment to drivers. The established carpooling rate is 56 cents per mile. Although Lyft has been operating based on donations, the recommended payment for its drivers is around $1.92 per mile with other additional charges.
