With the growing competition from e-commerce websites, Wal-Mart is going to close down 269 branches around the globe including the one in the Austin area within the next coming weeks. The Walmart Supercenter will be joining 29 different Walmart stores in Texas that will close and the Supercenter is to end its operations on January 28. At least 10,000 employees will be affected by the closures and it is said by the company that its decision was based on the long-term plans the company aims to continue. Despite these closures, the company had also announced they will open other stores starting February 1 which would cater to the neighborhoods.
