A smaller SXSW? Austin halts applications for special eventsDo not be surprised if the number of outdoor events for this year’s SXSW will be lesser compared to last year’s festival. The Austin Center for Events decided to decline additional special event permit applications last February 10 after the 114 ceiling has been reached. The said decision of the committee is part of the city’s public safety measures and precautions.

From 168 events in 2014, the events will be reduced by 32% because Austin’s police and fire department as well as medical emergency services can only manage 114 events. However, organizers may opt for closed venues as an alternative.
