According to an article that the Austin Business Journal sent out today, Austin has been picked to be part of an eight-city series of roundtable discussions for federal officials to gather information from entrepreneurs on how to improve the nation’s start-up environment.

Startup America is a coordinated public/private effort that brings together an alliance of the country’s most innovative entrepreneurs, corporations, universities, foundations, and other leaders, working in concert with a wide range of federal agencies to dramatically increase the prevalence and success of America’s entrepreneurs. Startup America is an important element of President Obama’s overall innovation strategy.

We have a city full of bright, intelligent entrepreneurs and it’s exciting that we get to be part of Startup America.

Here are some of the goals they list for the initiative: • Expand access to capital for high-growth startups throughout the country; • Expand entrepreneurship education and mentorship programs that empower more Americans not just to get a job, but to create jobs; • Strengthen commercialization of the about $148 billion in annual federally-funded research and development, which can generate innovative startups and entirely new industries; • Identify and remove unnecessary barriers to high-growth startups; and • Expand collaborations between large companies and startups.
