Since 1984, over 600 school districts filed a case against the state of Texas, claiming that it has underfunded the schools. Unfortunately, the battle between the state and the school districts is still on after almost three decades.
Last Thursday, State District Judge John Dietz declared that the “Robin Hood” school funding system of Austin Texas is still unconstitutional. Regardless of the additional $3.4 billion funds released last summer, Dietz stated that the funding mechanism still did not meet the requirements of the constitution for “general diffusion of knowledge”. He also added that poorer school districts have lesser budget compared to better-off schools.
