WP Engine, an Austin-based WordPress hosting and management company, has signed a lease for 14,500 square feet in Lavaca Plaza at 504 Lavaca St. WP Engine was originally based in the Capital Factory, a startup incubator at 701 Brazos St. Capital Factory and WP Engine were recently visited by President Obama during his trip to Austin last month.
The company employs over 40 people and had outgrown its space at Capital Factory. WP Engine wanted to stay in downtown Austin, but quickly realized that the downtown office space market is really tight, especially for companies looking at Class B and C office spaces. Lavaca Plaza, the new home of WP Engine, was built in the 1980s and was bought last year by a New York real estate investment company called Brickman.
