Does Austin, Texas have the resources, logistics, & infrastructure to host the 2024 Olympics? According to The New York Times Austin is one of 35 U.S. cities (including other Texas cities such as Houston, Dallas, & San Antonio) to be invited to bid on the opportunity to host the next Olympics!
Competing against other international cities to be nominated is not easy and very expensive. New York and Chicago bid in 2012 and 2016 respectively and spent over $10 million each, and the International Olympic Committee eliminated them early on in the process.
The list of requirements to be considered is long (e.g. need 45,000 hotel rooms) and many cities do not qualify even though the United States Olympic Committee sent letters to the mayors of the 35 larges cities in America.
