Austin Business Journal has a breakdown of the construction boom currently taking place in Downtown Austin. Over the next decade, the downtown district can expect to see a wide range of changes, incuding new hotels, condos and municipal projects.
Among the projects slated for construction in Downtown Austin are the Fairmont Austin, a 50-story, 1,000 room hotel at Red River and Cesar Chavez. When completed, the hotel will be the second-tallest building in the downtown area behind The Austonian.
Another upcoming project will be the development of the Seaholm Power Plant property. Plans are currently underway to transform the property into a mixed-used, pedestrian friendly development. Finalized plans are still in the works, but they could inlcude a large park and a 28-story tower with 294 apartments.
